Our Programs

Food Pantry Program

Distributes emergency packaged foods equivalent to a 3 day supply to qualified individuals once a month. This equated to 98 tons of food distributed annually that was equivalent to over 127,000 prepared meals. The Food Pantry hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday every week. The pantry is located at 39 Throckmorton Street.


Lunch Program

 

Sandwiches or hot nutritious meals are served Monday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in St. Peter's Episcopal Church Parish Hall at 33 Throckmorton Street. This is accomplished through the efforts of  "Feed All God's Children" which has replaced the Open Door Lunch Program and operates as a separate entity from the Open Door Pantry in Freehold, NJ. 

The Soup Kitchen which was started by Open Door will continue as a separate program under the management of Jim Benedict at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. To volunteer or make a donation, call Jim Benedict at (732) 761-0781

Emergency Funding and Advocacy Program

Provides qualified individuals with emergency financial assistance to prevent eviction or utility shutoff, to provide temporary housing and to help pay for medical needs such as prescriptions, etc. This program also provides referrals to other agencies that may be of assistance to persons in need.

 In 2008, Open Door, as a Salvation Army Service Unit, in collaboration with other agencies, helped 331 individuals with over $84,000.00  The program is located at 39 Throckmorton Steet and operates from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday every week.


After School Program

Provides homework assistance and computer training for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  Sessions are run Monday through Thursday each week from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 33 Throckmorton Street. Please note, the student's School Guidance Counselor, must provide a referral to Open Door for the child to be enrolled.

 

Scholarship Program

Past graduates from the After School Program who are going on to college or vocational school can be considered for scholarship funding. Potential students interested should inquire at 732-780-1089 for information on how to apply in writing.
